Fear-Free
No intimidation, no drugs, no forced submission. Every technique is grounded in behavioral science and equitation science principles.
For Rescues and Sanctuaries
The Problem
The work you do is inspiring. You bring horses in from difficult situations, assess them, feed them, remind them there is kindness in a human hand. When you feel they are ready, you place their lead rope in another human’s hand. You trust that these humans will continue that journey.
The truth is, most adopters do not have the skills you have or the ability to hear and understand what the horse is telling them when something changes.
That is not a failure of the system. It is a teaching opportunity. We would like to step in before YouTube and Facebook and give these new horse owners access to a fear-free, ethical training library that teaches them the skills needed for them to be the partner you trust they will be.
The Safe Horse Initiative
The Safe Horse Initiative is a behavioral training library created by Jeanette Lampe, a fear-free trainer based in Aiken, South Carolina. Built on real horses with real histories and real training journeys.
It is not about copying exercises. It is about understanding behavior, making better decisions, and responding correctly.
For adopters of horses with complicated pasts, it fills the critical gap between placement and partnership.
No intimidation, no drugs, no forced submission. Every technique is grounded in behavioral science and equitation science principles.
Without understanding why a horse is behaving a certain way, the what to do next is just guesswork. Evaluate first, then respond with purpose.
Not everyone has all the equipment. The library is filled with ways to work with your horse using what you have.
The Partnership
You agree to be listed as a Recognized Partner on the SHI website and to share a promo code with your adopters. That is the only requirement to get started.
Every partner gets their own promo code tied to your organization. Adopters use it at signup for one free month of SHI access.
Every person who adopts a horse through your organization can access the full SHI library free for their first month. After that, full access starts at $25 a month.
When we train and rehome a horse that came through a rescue or sanctuary partner, 15% of the gross sale price goes back to that organization within 30 days of closing.
At-Risk Referrals
Because each horse in our program receives extensive individualized attention, we accept only a limited number of horses at any given time. Our focus is quality of care, not quantity.
When capacity allows, we carefully select horses that are a strong fit for the program and its goals.
If you have a horse you think may be a candidate, we welcome the conversation. No commitment, no pressure. Just an opportunity to learn more and see if it is the right match.
Start a Conversation
We will follow up within two business days. No pitch. Just a conversation about whether this is a good fit.
